Side Project

For the past couple of months, I’ve been helping my sister-in-law redecorate her house. We’ve been using items found around her house as well as new purchases, if needed. After finishing her powder room, we moved to the dining room, where I helped her create drapes for her windows. That inspired me to want to redecorate our house. We painted our bedroom, purchased new sheets and I will need to make drapes for the windows in there. Looking at our dining room, we wanted new drapes as well. I purchased these panels at Bed, Bath and Beyond and it just doesn’t fit our style anymore.

I was on the hunt for something new. I visited Jo-Ann’s to peruse through their home decor fabric, which as on sale for 50% off and I had an additional 30% off coupon, score! After many picture taking and email exchanges with the hubby, we finally found one that would work great. The top part of the panel would be a solid ivory, drapery lining, and the bottom half would be a printed taupe floral pattern. It was perfect for the room.

I did some rough measurements and figured that the window panel is 94″ long, with the top half being about 30″ tall and the bottom 64″ with back tabbed pleats. (Finished size is a little bit off, but it still looks great!) Here’s a little collage of the process I went to attach the two pieces, creating the hems for the sides and attaching the back tabs.
After hanging the tabs, I realized the bottom was a bit too long and I had to adjust. With a lot of ironing and pinning, I finally got it to the length I wanted. Here is the finished piece. The hubby and I love it and the room feels more like us.
